Yesterday, my travels began. I said goodbye to all my friends, finished packing my bags, and drove to SFO. I ate dinner at the Virgin lounge and then my mom walked me through security to my gate. As we went down the escalator, I realized that this was it. I had talked about this day for over a year; I anticipated what it would feel like to say good bye to my parents and not see them again for many weeks. I wasn't nervous because I knew everything would be fine, but it was still sad to say goodbye. My mom hugged me one last time before I finally embarked on my adventure.
A man from Virgin then escorted me onto the plane and directed me toward my seat. I sat down, organized my area and then started to watch a movie. The familiar feeling of the plane taking off comforted me. The rumbling of seats, whirl of the engine, the feeling as though gravity became stronger as it pulled me toward the earth not wanting me to leave the ground. After the movie ended I made my bed and drifted off into a well deserved sleep.
The plane eventually landed the next day into cloudy London. I had to wait until everybody else got off the plane since I was unaccompanied. Then, a man escorted me off the plane to the fast track lane at the UK border. I was so glad that I didn't have to wait in the long lines and could go straight to the front. When I arrived at baggage claim, I didn't have to wait long before my bags came on the carousel (which I was happy about). The man helped me wheel my bags on the cart to the arrivals gate where many eager people waited to greet their friends and family. It took me a while to find my grandparents but eventually they spotted me. We greeted each other with warm hugs and slowly walked to the car while talking about my upcoming plans.
